Sound card model

This program requires YMF7x4 - based sound card. "YMF7x4" means a Yamaha YMF724, YMF740, YMF744, YMF754 PCI sound chip with hardware XG MIDI synthesizer technology.

We recommend to use versions 4.07.1040 or 4.06.2004...2008 on Windows 9x. These versions have best subjective XG MIDI quality. Newer versions (WDM as well) are 'injured' by Yamaha: this may cause scratches and distortion while playing XG MIDI. This is _not_ PowerYMF bug. It's a known bug of driver software.

We would not recommend using WDM drivers, even in the case if you don't plan to use PowerYMF. WDM driver version is known not to have Soundius XG synthesizer, play with scratches and distortion and increased effect levels, so some XG MIDI files will be played differently.
